2008 Thanksgiving Food Drive - A HUGE Success!
With the price of fuel coming down but the cost of food and other goods remaining high (if not higher) many less forunate local families will now be able to have an enjoyable Thanksgiving dinner with their families.
Through the efforts of our vendors here at Uncle Bill's Flea Market, outside donations, and the help of a few local businesses we managed to collect enough funds to supply 100 needy Jackson County families the fixins for a complete Thanksgiving dinner. We also provided The Haywood County Soup Kitchen with 35 turkeys and 35 12 packs of soft drinks.
Michelle James, our market's Events Coordinator, assisted by Jackson County Social Services, The Jackson County Sheriff's Dept. (who delivered a large portion of the food for us), Walmart of Sylva, NC. (who helped to supply the food) and Coca Cola Bottling of Bryson City, NC. (who supplied the drinks), all made this possible.
The funds came from many places starting with our wonderful vendors here at Uncle Bill's. Outside the Flea Market we had quite a few people collecting for us as well. Father Bud (our resident pastor) collected funds as well as Sunny & Pat Madison who handled collections in the Haywood County area. Uncle Bill graciously matched dollar for dollar all money collected.
We (the market staff) would like to thank everyone who took the time to make this effort the huge success it was. We know we may miss thanking someone in this brief message but please don't feel your deed is not as important as others, everyone who made an effort is special to us and we thank you very, very much.

This Is It ! :: Uncle Bill's Flea Market :: Whittier, North Carolina |
OPEN Friday - Sunday 8:00am - 5:00pm
Uncle Bill's Flea Market is nestled in the Great Smoky Mountains just 15 minutes from the Cherokee Indian Reservation and The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We are located directly on US. Hwy 441N/74W with over 1/2 mile of Flea Market right along side the highway with the Tuckaseigee River behind us with access for fishing and rafting.
Uncle Bill's Flea Market is one of Western North Carolina's oldest and most well known flea markets having been in business for over 21yrs in our present location. Throughout the years we have grown from a small mom and pop antiques mall located in a road side cow pasture to a large open air flea market thats now over 1/2 mile long. We feature hundreds of vendors selling everything you can think of, and probably a few things you never even thought of! We offer 2 locations to sit and eat breakfast or lunch plus an old fashion hand dipped ice cream parlor that also has real homemade fudge.
Be sure to stop by and visit with Uncle Bill, he's quite the character as you'll find out if you get the chance to stop by and chat with him. Uncle Bill is some what of a world traveler, maybe you can get him to tell you a few of his stories. (Ask him about the cannibal tribes he made friends with in the jungle ... true story!) Uncle Bill also speaks many languages including Indonesian, Spanish and as he says, A Whole Lotta Hillbilly!!
If your looking for a fun family type flea market then Uncle Bill's is the place for you. Our vendors are eager to help you but are not pushy and overbearing. The flea market staff is friendly, warm and always willing to help if you need to find something and you can't seem to locate it. We have a tourist information booth located in the main mall area near the ice cream shop that has discount tickets to area attractions , pamphlets on all the area has to offer and just great overall information for anyone passing through our neck of the woods. So come on over and visit with us at Uncle Bill's Flea Market and be sure to bring the kids because there is always something fun to do. Make sure you check our Events Calendar on our website, you never know what kind of wacky things we might be up to here in the mountains.
